A Sliver
of Light
One dark
day a man had reached a state of hopelessness. Recognizing his distress, his
daughter walked over and gently laid her hands on his shoulders, connecting
with his energy. Using a Reiki technique, she sensed him shift out of his
depression and begin to relax. As she worked, she jotted down a few words,
finishing with a statement of surrender and gratitude. She shared the message
with her father and encouraged him to say the last line out loud.
A sliver
of light opened up in the darkness and the man began to chuckle saying, “I don’t believe in Reiki.”
The daughter asked what he thought Reiki did. He replied, “I suppose it relaxes you.”
Smiling, the daughter asked, “Do
you feel more relaxed?” He said “Yes”, and together they laughed. Her father examined the words on
the page and decided living according the column on the right would feel so
much better.
Now, when darkness begins to overcome the man, his wife
shows him the words which often still help. If they can help one man then maybe
there are others. Each morning when you rise you can decide how to live out
your day. Will you choose FEAR, which comes so naturally for many of us, or
LOVE, which could require a more conscious effort? No matter what you decide, a
simple statement of gratitude can add a little more light to the world.
